How can I have beautiful and youthful looking skin?

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Do not smoke.
  • Do not use alcohol.
  • Have a balanced, low fat, and nutritious diet, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
  • Wash the face in the morning and at night with a mild facial cleanser.
  • Use a high-quality herbal skin cream that contains valuable and regenerating essential and botanical oils.
  • Exercise at least three to four times a week.
  • Have adequate and good sleep.
  • Manage and reduce stress by relaxing activities such as yoga, music, meditation, or reading.
  • Avoid exposure in the sun, which can cause skin damage and wrinkles due to its ultraviolet properties, or use a strong sunscreen and protective clothing during outdoor activities.

What can I expect from using Edelweiss Botanicals skin care products?

Our products are designed to achieve glowing and smooth skin with minimized pores and wrinkles for you. Many users have attained a rosy, smooth, and powdery complexion even without makeup. If you have never used essential oil products before -- or recently, it is important to know that there may be a purging stage where the skin will breakout. This is because of all the dirt and clogged pores clearing out, which often will cause pimples.

After this phase is through, the skin will be glowing and much clearer than it was before. The purging stage can last from a few days to a few weeks depending on how much toxins and clogged pores exist. Continue to use them (in smaller amounts) in the purging stage, or supplement the skin care regimen with the Edelweiss Acne Relief Cream. But stop using them if you develop a rash from allergic reactions to any of the ingredients. Some people will not have a purging stage, yet both groups can arrive at substantially better skin. For best results, the skin care products should be used regularly.

Do you recommend anything for under-eye circles?

Most under-eye circles are caused by the appearance of veins beneath the thin skin under our eyes. As we age the skin under our eyes becomes thinner and more wrinkled due to exposure to the elements (sun, pollution, wind, etc.), which allows the veins in this fatty padded area under the eye to appear more prominent. These veins also become more swollen and obvious in people with allergies.

Similarly, people with a history of eczema, hay fever or asthma often develop dark circles, which can also become more apparent because of poor circulation from lack of sleep, stress, or unfortunately, heredity. Women tend to develop dark circles during the menstrual cycle due to iron deficiency and water retention. Furthermore, continuous close-up reading or computer work can cause eyestrain and the worn-out look. Therefore, the following are recommended to help alleviate under-eye circles:

  • Adhere to the suggestions for attaining beautiful skin.
  • Tackle the problem with a natural cream made with botanical extracts that decongest and moisturize the delicate under-eye skin:

    • The Edelweiss Botanicals Regeneration Eye Cream contains a broad spectrum of antioxidants and herbal nutrients such as German Chamomile and Rosehip Oil (Chamomile is anti-inflammatory while Rosehip is legendary in fighting wrinkles) to fight free radical damage, help maintain the levels of collagen and elastin, and stimulate circulation.
    • Apply the cream to the eye area morning and evening.

  • Find and eliminate the source(s) of allergies, if possible.
  • Always wear sunglasses that provide 100% UV protection when outside (or inside cars). UV rays are present even when it's overcast. In addition to causing skin cancer and eye disorders, UV light can also beget discoloration, spots, and wrinkles.
  • To relieve eyestrain and puffiness, try the following:

    • Move away from the computer every 20 minutes and focus on distance objects for at least two minutes.
    • Exercise and stretch the eye muscles by rotating the eyeballs in clockwise and counter-clockwise movements.
    • Put a cold compress on the eyes for 10-15 minutes. Chamomile or green tea bags are excellent compress options.

Why is drinking plenty of water important?

Water is important in the daily functioning of our bodies. About 65% of the body weight is water, which is the main component of blood, urine, lymph, sweat and digestive juices. It helps to produce energy, regulate body temperature, build new cells, lubricate joints, eliminate waste, remove toxins and deliver nutrients. It even helps "plump" your skin, leaving it clear and moisturized. Even your brain is 90% water, and when it cannot maintain that level, it will pull water away from all other parts of the body - to their detriment.

Water is a fantastic tool in our quest for weight loss. Water ensures that digestion and your metabolism are working at their optimum level. Plus, by drinking 8 glasses a day, you can help curb your appetite because of its filling effect. Also, water is important in reducing fat deposits in the body by helping to mobilize stored body fat. As an added benefit, water will also relieve fluid retention problems. If you don't give your body enough water, it will intentionally store water in order not to lose it. Enough water intake will enable you to exercise more effectively and at higher levels.

As a minimum, drink 64 ounces per day, with an additional 8 ounces per day for every 25 pounds overweight or for every hour of exercise. It's better to drink cold (or room temperature) water, because it is absorbed quicker and may burn more calories. Lastly, try to drink clean water that is bottled or filtered. Fruit and vegetable juices should not count towards your water intake. Furthermore, any coffee, tea, alcohol, or soft drinks are considered diuretics. This means they have a dehydrating effect, counting against your water intake count!

What can I do to conserve product shelf life?

  • Our products are designed to last from one to two years but we only state a one-year (from manufacturing date) shelf life to ensure best freshness.
  • Keep the product in a cool, dry, and dark place.
  • Keeping the product in the fridge is not necessary unless you live in a hot climate.
  • Bathrooms are not good places to store skin care products because of the high moisture level and temperature variance.

Why are mineral oils bad for the skin?

The #1 most used ingredient in American skin care. A mixture of refined liquid hydrocarbons derived from petroleum. Mineral oil and all petroleum-based ingredients are products of black crude oil. In Switzerland, it is ILLEGAL to use mineral oil in hospitals. Mineral oil costs about $1/gallon, as compared to essential oils which can cost as much as $100/oz. Mineral oils are often used because they are cheap and have a very nice initial skin feel.

But their molecular size is too large to be absorbed by the skin, thus they form a film on the skin's surface blocking the pores' natural respiration and secretion process, as well as absorption of other nutrients. Thus, they just mask the dry skin condition, which gradually gets worse and the skin ages faster.

What are some of the other ingredients we should avoid?

  • Chemical Dyes and Fragrances: Formulated chemically from a wide variety of sources. Artificial colors are known to cause allergic reactions. Chemical fragrances have been known to cause reactions and photosensitivity in some people. There are an abundance of herbs and botanicals that serve the same purpose, hence there simply is no need to add chemical dyes and fragrances to skin care formulations.
  • Collagen: An animal product, collagen is added to formulas as a moisturizing agent. Collagen molecules are too large to penetrate the skin and can therefore clog pores blocking the skin's own natural respiration and secretion process, and absorption of other nutrients.
  • Lanolin: Oily excretion of sheep, lanolin is a common lubricating ingredient in skin formulas. Extracted from the wool, lanolin has been indicated as a cause of allergic skin reactions in sensitive people.
  • SD40 Alcohol: Strips the skin's natural acid mantle, exposing the pores to bacteria and germs. "Skin care products that strip do much more than cause skin problems; they leave pores exposed allowing bacterial growth in the pores which is where these harmful elements enter the blood stream and cause illness or even death," reported Dr. Bruce Hensel on Day & Date.

Do the oils leave the skin feeling greasy?

No. They are all completely natural and there are no additives to form a greasy coating on your skin. Edelweiss Botanicals' oils will penetrate through the layers of your skin and be absorbed into the tissue and bloodstream in a short time. On the contrary, most commercial lotions and creams contain strong drying agents such as cetyl alcohol - a chemical that causes rapid evaporation of the product when applied. With continued use of cetyl alcohol, your skin dries out, cracks, and ages faster. With our lotions and creams, use smaller amounts and let it naturally absorb into the skin in a few minutes.

Why do the lotions sometimes have a small amount of separation at the top?

This is a characteristic of a chemical-free lotion. No synthetic chemical emulsifiers are used in our products. The separation has no adverse effect on the product’s potency or performance.

What are free radicals?

Free radicals cause damage to vital tissues and tend to expedite aging. High levels of free radicals can develop from strenuous exercise, unhealthy diets, toxins, air, water, or food pollution, and stress.

What are antioxidants?

Antioxidants are molecules that easily release electrons neutralizing electron-deficient compounds known as oxidized free radicals. Antioxidants are present in fruits and vegetables, and in dietary supplements including vitamins C and E, beta-carotene, and selenium. Essential and botanical oils also have an abundance of antioxidants and nutrients.

What is lactic acid?

Lactic acid is a natural compound produced in the "muscles" during exercise. When it accumulates to high levels it can be one of the causes of painful muscle cramps, spasms, sore muscles and can prolong recovery time between workouts.
